Norainee said the ‘Upin and Upin’ animation series was very popular among children, including her own grandchildren. “And if they want to learn English, they can read this comic magazine,” she said. “Publishing ‘Upin and Ipin’ in English is not aimed at sidelining the Malay language which is upheld as our national language, but is additional reading material for children. As a local animated film in Malaysia, Upin & Ipin’s award means a lot to the Malaysian animation industry.
